API SPEC 7-1 Pilot Mill
The leading eye grinding shoe can be used to grind the falling objects with inner holes that are unstable and swaying underground, such as drill pipes, drill collars, oil pipes, etc. The leading eye grinding shoe is composed of two parts: the grinding shoe body and the leading eye cone. The upper part of the grinding shoe body is the inner thread of the drill pipe, and the lower part is a cylinder with a larger diameter. YD alloy or wear-resistant material is welded to the lower plane of the collar cone and the grinding shoe body. The pilot cone acts as a guide to fix the top of the fish. In addition, there are 2 to 4 water troughs on the lower plane of the grinding shoe body to ensure smooth circulation.
The leading eye grinding shoe mainly relies on the cone that enters the falling object to locate the falling object, and then rotates with the drilling tool, and the grinding shoe welded with YD alloy grinds the falling object.
